A Child's Place maintains written policies that guide our approach to major issues and provide a common understanding of many practical and safety related issues. Our policies reflect current state and federal regulations as well as best practices in early childhood educaiton. We suggest that all parents become familiar with our policies and we encourage you to contact your child's head teacher or the Executive Director if you have any questions. Our programs and policies reflect the contributions of all involved and are updated regularly to reflect parent feedback as well as changes in state and federal regulations and best professional practices.



INCLEMENT WEATHER


School Year Programs: Toddlers-Threes-Fours

  1. If Westport schools have a delayed opening, then the School Year Programs will open at 10:00 am. The afternoon programs will open at their regularly scheduled times.
  2. If Westport schools close, then the School Year Programs close as well. If the weather improves during the morning, School Year afternoon classes may be open. You will be contacted only if the afternoon programs are open.
  3. If Westport schools have an early dismissal, School Year extended day and afternoon programs will be cancelled.
  4. All decisions about delays and closings will be announced in the morning on our Connect-Ed messaging system.
  5. Families or alternate emergency persons will be contacted by phone if a decision is made to close the School Year Programs early.



First Steps 12 Month Programs

  1. If Westport schools have a delayed opening, The First Steps Programs will follow that delay. (Example: If there is a two hour delay programs will open at 9:30 etc.)
  2. If Westport schools close, at the discretion of the Executive Director, the First Steps Programs will either open at 10:00 a.m. or close for the entire day.
  3. In the event of severe weather conditions, the Executive Director may, at her discretion, close programs early.
  4. Families or alternate emergency persons will be contacted by phone if a decision is made to close the First Steps programs early. Two staff will remain until all children are picked up.
  5. All decisions will be announced in the morning on our Connect-Ed messaging system.
