Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years. We offer a wide range of opportunities for children to learn through doing, self-expression and self-discipline. At the same time, we help parents help their children become caring skillful individuals and contributing members of the community. Above all, we recognize that each child is an individual with particular needs, interest and talents.

We believe that early childhood education has two goals: First, to help children function effectively within the world; Second, to help them discover the world within themselves.
To reach the first
goal, we encourage children to become confident learners and to work
cooperatively and responsibly. To reach the second goal, we encourage them
to be self-motivated, enthusiastic about their special personal interests,
and proud of their efforts, whether or not these efforts are rewarded with
immediate success. To foster these goals, we focus on the development of
skills in communication, cognition, creative expression, physical dexterity,
and social and emotional interaction.

A Child's Place has three different programs designed to meet the needs of families in our community. The First Steps Program serves children from 6 weeks through preschool who need full-time child care. It provides families with a reliable, professional, nurturing environment, five days per week.
Our stimulating School Year Program is designed for toddlers, threes, and fours and meets 2 or 3 days per week for three hours each day. The program has both morning and afternoon classes.
In addition, A Child's Place has an active and exciting Summer Program where toddlers through preschoolers experience fun-packed days filled with field trips, water activities, and lots of summer learning.
The goal for all our programs is to be the premier early childhood community for creative, nurturing, and innovative learning in Westport and the state of Connecticut.
