OUR ADMISSIONS POLICY
2014 - 2015

There are three programs under the A Child's Place umbrella.

First Steps is a full-time, 12 month program with three age levels:

• Infants (AGE: six weeks to 23 months by December 31)

• Toddlers (AGE: 18 months by September 1)

• Preschoolers (AGE: 3 years by December 31 to Kindergarten)

The School Year AM Program is a ten month program with three age levels:

• Toddlers (AGE: 2 years by September 1)

• Threes (AGE: 3 years by December 31)

• Preschool (AGE: 4 years by December 31)

The School Year PM Program is a ten month program with three age levels:

• Toddlers (AGE: 2 years by September 1)

• Threes (AGE: 3 years by December 31)

• Preschool (AGE: 4 years by December 31)

It is the school’s philosophy that there should be as close to a 50/50 mix of 3’s and 4’s as possible in the School Year Preschool Program, and a fairly even mix, when possible, of boys and girls in all programs.

OUR ADMISSIONS PROCESS

There are six “tiers” within the admissions process. These tiers define the order of priority of admissions into ACP programs.

1. Children continuing in their current program and staff children - these children are guaranteed space in the next level.

2. Children who would like to switch between programs - if no space is available in the requested program, a space in the current program is guaranteed.

3. Siblings of children currently enrolled or alumni child at ACP for at least 3 years who wish to join a program (whether or not the sibling who is currently enrolled will be returning).

4. Siblings of Alumni child at ACP for 2 years or less who wish to join the program.

5. 2013-2014 Waitlist Children and Children who have attended our Summer Program.

6. Children in the community who wish to join a program for the first time.

In the event that spaces are oversubscribed for any tier, lotteries, reflecting the school’s philosophy regarding gender and age mix, will be held to allocate space and create waitlists. All final placements are at the sole discretion of the Executive Director.

Extended Day

Extended days are available in the Ten Month programs. Requests for extended day slots will be accepted at any time beginning with the child’s relevant application due date. If the slots are over-subscribed on any one application due date, those applicants will receive extended day slots based on the lottery without regard to the age and/or gender mix, but consideration will first be given to those requesting a full school week of extended day.
